Criminal Defense Conflicts Program

The County Counsel’s Office operates and oversees the Criminal Defense Conflicts Program. The program maintains and administratively supervises a panel of attorneys who are appointed by the Superior Court to represent indigent criminal defendants in cases where the Public Defender and the alternate defense firm have declared a conflict of interest. The private attorneys who participate in the Program represent both adults and juveniles who are facing criminal charges, have habeas corpus matters, or are appealing misdemeanor criminal convictions.
